Deserno plays Dinescu

DESERNO plays DINESCU
Works für Violoncello by Violeta Dinescu
Katharina Deserno, Cello

Searching for the unique character of each instrument and for new timbres as well as the exploration of different ranges are the main focus of Romanian composer Violeta Dinescu’s artistic oeuvre and make their mark on this album. With a great deal of imagination and intuition for complex tonal language, an irrepressible love of playing and virtuosic techniques, cellist Katharina Deserno explores the extraordinary sound world of Dinescu’s scores.

Description

Searching for the unique character of each instrument and for new timbres as well as the exploration of different ranges are the main focus of Romanian composer Violeta Dinescu’s artistic oeuvre and make their mark on this album. With a great deal of imagination and intuition for complex tonal language, an irrepressible love of playing and virtuosic techniques, cellist Katharina Deserno explores the extraordinary sound world of Dinescu’s scores.

Violeta Dinescu and Katharina Deserno have shared an intensive artistic collaboration for almost 10 years, resulting in the world premieres of various works. Dinescu has found in Katharina Deserno “an ideal interpreter.” The composer notes that what is remarkable about Katharina Deserno’s interpretation is the coexistence of precision with the naturalness of the musical gesture, which defines an exceptionally expressive phrasing. This quality, the ability to penetrate the essence of musical thought, is the secret of a creative interpretation. Violeta Dinescu has composed several works for Katharina Deserno. Following cellist Katharina Deserno’s juxtaposition of Dinescu’s solo works with suites by Johann Sebastian Bach on her album “Suites & Roses” [Kaleidos, KAL6344-2], she now presents a program featuring compositions for solo cello (from the last 30 years to the present) by Violeta Dinescu, demonstrating significant stylistic and technical diversity.
